Lynyrd Skynyrd Live Asbury Park 1977 was one of the shows on the long and grueling tour for the band that year. The 1977 Tour began in January, and had a relentless schedule through most of that year.
Skynyrd had just finished up the European leg of the tour, the last of 21 shows being in Hamburg, Germany on March 1. There had been a short, 5 show Asian Tour before that, with all of the shows being in Japan.
The North American leg of the tour kicked off on April 22, in Johnson City, TN at the Freedom Hall Civic Center. They were still promoting and touring behind the release of their highly acclaimed live album, One More From The Road. It was released in September, 1976.
Their previous studio album, Gimme Back My Bullets, had just been released in February, 1976, less than a year before this tour started. It was the only album that Lynyrd Skynyrd released that had only two guitar layers. Those being original members Gary Rossington, and Allen Collins.
“Bullets” was recorded after Guitarist Ed King Left the band, and before the addition of Steve Gaines. Skynyrd was at the peak of their popularity, and definitely as strong as every sound and performance-wise.
This show was towards the end of the North American leg of the tour. After the Asbury Park 1977 show they would have about 5 weeks off the road before going back out for another stretch of shows.
This concert was on July 13 at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
