This video is by one of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s crew members. He experienced the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash when it happened in October of 1977.
He was part of the lighting crew which was based out of Houston, TX. He talks about flying to Dallas to pick up the sound crew, and then to Jax to get the band.
He also talks about some of the earlier shows on that same tour. All of which were using that same plane that eventually went down near Gillburg, MS.
My name is Mark Howard, and I am a survivor of the fatal Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash from 1977. This video is done to educate viewers about the plane crash. I tell exactly what happened in the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash through my eyes because I was in the crash. – from Youtube description
What I found most interesting was his take, a first-hand experience, on Ronnie as a person and a business man.
Mark has a particular memory of a conversation that really sheds some light on how savvy and observant of a guy that Ronnie Van Zant really was.

Educating About The Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash
Mark does a really good job of just relating his story. You can tell, and he even mentions, it’s still hard for him to talk about sometimes.
He has a pleasant, rather subdued way of presenting himself. He is not flamboyant or sensationalizing at all. Just sharing and remembering some very difficult memories from a horrible night so many years ago now.
There is also a Part II of this video where he shares some other things and stories that came to him after he taped this video.
Mark has worked with several other national acts in his career. His Youtube chanell is True Backstage and Road Stories. There are some other very interesting video there. You should check it out.
