Rig Rundown – Lynyrd Skynyrd: Gary Rossington & Rickey Medlocke

As we all know Lynyrd Skynyrd are out on their, seemingly never ending, Farewell Tour. They’ve had a long career as a band, in different incarnations: It takes a long time to say goodbye.

This is a rig rundown from last November done by PremierGuitar.com and John Bohlinger. It’s also posted on their website with some more pics and stuff.

It’s cool to see Gary and Rickey’s classic guitars and hear some background and stories. Johnny walks by and puts his goofy self in their for a bit. It’s pretty funny when the interviewer dude starts rootin’ around in the guitar vault looking for the ‘SG’ and Gary says, “I’ll grab it. I’ll get it.”

It’s a little behind the scenes look at Guitar World where the techs live and do their jobs. The stuff going on during the show that you never see, but makes it all happen, most of the time, without any problems. There’s a whole world of stuff going on in the wings when a show is happening that we never see. It’s very technical and their are some supremely talented cats in that part of the show too.

This rig rundown has gotten some really good response since it’s been up. User IPushHard says “Best Rig Rundown Ever.” There’s a lot of admiration for the accessibility and humility of these guys, and comments about how Gary or the band inspired someone to become a guitar player or prompted their love of Rock and Roll music.

There’s another great guitar discussion with the late great Ed King – Ed King’s Guitar Collection. It’s really less about his collection and more about a few of his main ones and the stories behind them. And speaking of the Farewell Tour, Skynyrd Discusses their Future is also a good one to take a look at.
